Who says legal provisions have to be rigid and sleep-inducing? On April 13, 2026, the Department of Long-Term Care at Asia University invited Professor Wang Chung-Yi from the Department of Healthcare Administration at China Medical University as an industry expert to deliver a uniquely engaging lecture on the “Fundamental Concepts of Health Law and Regulations” for second-year students in the course Bioethics and Law. With his signature humor and highly interactive teaching approach, Professor Wang completely overturned students’ stereotypical impressions of regulatory courses, creating a lively atmosphere filled with constant discussion.
“Do regulations have anything to do with you?” — Stepping beyond textbooks into real life
Right from the start, Professor Wang broke away from the traditional “sit-and-listen” lecture format. He moved among the students, encouraging peer interaction while affirming their sense of self-worth. He then guided the session through five core questions, engaging the audience in real-time dialogue. From “How are regulations created?” to “What do regulations have to do with you?”, he used relatable, real-life examples to transform complex legal concepts into accessible, interactive discussions. Students were prompted to reflect on how, in frontline long-term care, the law serves as a powerful safeguard for both caregivers and care recipients.
Interaction, critical thinking, and transformation: igniting curiosity among future care professionals
Throughout the session, Professor Wang demonstrated exceptional approachability. He used expressive body language to emphasize key points and frequently challenged students’ reasoning with thought-provoking questions. He stressed, “Learning regulations is not about memorizing provisions, but about understanding the ‘spirit’ behind them.” This open and encouraging teaching style inspired many students—who had initially felt intimidated by legal subjects—to actively participate and share their thoughts. The classroom quickly became vibrant and highly engaging.
Cross-disciplinary expertise and inter-university collaboration: strengthening legal education in long-term care
Faculty members from Asia University’s Department of Long-Term Care noted that health regulations form a cornerstone of professional practice, yet often present a steep learning curve for beginners. Inviting Professor Wang, who has extensive experience in healthcare management, aimed to help students establish a solid foundation in legal and ethical awareness early in their careers. One student shared, “I never imagined a regulations class could be this interesting! Professor Wang’s interactive teaching made us realize that law is deeply connected to both our daily lives and our future profession.”
This lecture was not only a transfer of academic knowledge but also a successful demonstration of innovative teaching. Through the dynamic instruction of a cross-university expert, the Department of Long-Term Care at Asia University has effectively opened the door to health law for its students, laying a strong foundation for their future professional competence and ethical practice.
