The Department of Long-Term Care at Asia University recently invited Professor Chang Wen-Hui to deliver a career lecture titled “Older Adults’ Learning and Gerontological Education & Career Development in the Silver-Hair Industry.” The lecture guided students in understanding learning characteristics among older adults and the core principles of gerontological education. Drawing on age-related physical, psychological, and cognitive changes, the speaker explained how to design learning activities that meet seniors’ needs. She also shared teaching and companionship strategies that promote active aging and help delay functional decline, helping students recognize the vital role of “learning” in long-term care and health promotion.

The lecture also highlighted trends in the silver economy and diverse career pathways within the senior industry. It introduced the competencies needed in settings such as gerontological education programs, community care hubs, adult day care services, and disability prevention and delay initiatives. Students were encouraged to integrate professional caregiving skills with humanistic care and innovative thinking, and to plan their career paths early. Through a balanced sharing of theory and practice, students gained a clearer view of the opportunities and challenges in the silver-hair industry, better preparing them for future work in elder care.
