Asia University Long-Term Care freshmen orientation and guided learning activities: building professional foundations and strengthening cohort cohesion.

From September 1 to September 5, the Department of Long-Term Care at Asia University held its Freshmen Orientation and Guided Learning Program for the 2025 academic year. Through a week of intensive and diverse bridging courses, the program helped new students become familiar with campus life and establish a foundation in long-term care. The activities began with an assembly and opening ceremony, followed by an earthquake evacuation drill, a mental health screening, and campus safety guidance. These sessions helped freshmen quickly adjust to university life while strengthening self-care awareness and crisis-response skills.

The department’s orientation curriculum focused on “Understanding Long-Term Care, Exploring Career Development, and Building Interdisciplinary Competence.” The program introduced the department’s key features, scholarships and competency roadmap, graduation requirements, and pre- and post-assessments of caregiving competence. Lectures on topics such as the integration of long-term care with AI, public health, and law enabled students to understand the interdisciplinary needs of future care settings. Workshops and activities—including a senior-friendly toy workshop, learning professional long-term care terminology, sharing experiences from international internships, and hands-on training with digital learning tools (TronClass, Teams, and course registration systems)—further strengthened the link between academic learning and practical application.

Afternoon sessions included a student clubs fair, tours led by the department student association, class-building activities, and peer交流 events to enhance students’ sense of belonging and support. A parent–teacher forum was also arranged to encourage communication between families and the university. Overall, the orientation week combined professional training, humanistic values, and engaging experiences, launching freshmen on their long-term care learning journey and helping them clarify future career directions.
